Arkansas sees increase in electric vehicle registrations, DFA says

Although the number of electric vehicles has increased, Scott Hardin said electric vehicles do not occupy a large percentage of total registrations.

ARKANSAS, USA — Electric vehicle registrations in Arkansas have increased by 69.8% since 2019, according to figures provided by Scott Hardin with the Department of Finance and Administration (DFA).

In 2019, Arkansas had 781 fully electric vehicles and 13,861 hybrid vehicles registered. As of June 30, 2024, there are 6,895 fully electric vehicles and 41,652 hybrid vehicles registered.

"The number of electric vehicles continues to increase," Hardin said. "However, we currently have almost 2.8 million passenger vehicles (cars, trucks, SUVs) registered in Arkansas."

Although the number of electric vehicles has overwhelmingly increased, Hardin said electric vehicles do not occupy a large percentage of total registrations in Arkansas.

"Electric vehicles are not a significant percentage of total registrations," he said.

EV registrations over the years:

  • 2019
    • Fully electric: 781
    • Hybrid: 13,861
  • 2020
    • Fully electric: 1,303
    • Hybrid: 18,242
  • 2021
    • Fully electric: 2,094
    • Hybrid: 22,818
  • 2022
    • Fully electric: 2,997
    • Hybrid: 27,441
  • 2023
    • Fully electric: 4069
    • Hybrid: 32,068

"You see these reports of sales EV sales dropping," Hardin said. "Well, in Arkansas, obviously someone is purchasing them or we wouldn't see this significant increase in registrations. I don't know if we're unique, but we're not seeing any slowdown in this growth."
