Fayetteville man arrested, accused of killing father with shotgun

Police believe Dickson shot his father twice with a shotgun while the alleged victim was inside his closet.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — 29-year-old Robert Dickson was booked into the Washington County Sheriff's Office (WCSO) detention center on a charge of first-degree murder on Sept. 15, according to court records.

In an arrest report, the Fayetteville Police Department said they received a 911 call around 3 p.m. from Dickson claiming he had an argument with his father, which led to a shootout in their home. Dickson told authorities his father "grabbed his .40 caliber pistol and started shooting at me. I grabbed my shotgun and shot back and hit him."

Over the phone, Dickson allegedly told police his father was shooting at him through his bedroom door.

Upon arrival, police found Dickson's father dead in a corner of his closet, but no bullet holes were reported in either bedroom door.

According to the report, police believe Dickson shot his father twice with a shotgun while the alleged victim was inside his closet. A pistol was reportedly recovered in the closet near the man's body, but police believe Dickson entered the victim's room and killed him without justification.

Dickson was charged with first-degree murder.
