FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — A Texas school district named Dr. Courtney Morawski, assistant superintendent of Fayetteville Public Schools, a lone finalist in their search for a new superintendent.
On Dec. 16, the Granbury Independent School District unanimously voted to make Morawski their sole candidate for the administrative position.
"I am deeply honored to be named the lone finalist for Granbury ISD superintendent," Morawski said. "This district’s commitment to student success, innovation, and community engagement strongly aligns with my values and leadership approach."
With a career in education spanning over 20 years, Morawski has worked in Arkansas public schools for the last seven years. Before starting with the Fayetteville district, she worked for the Bentonville School District and Fort Smith Public Schools where her husband, Dr. Terry Morawski, currently serves as the superintendent.
Following Granbury's announcement about the board's vote, Fort Smith Public Schools issued a statement about Terry Morawski's future with the district. Fort Smith schools said Terry Morawski will discuss a leadership transition with the board after Courtney Morawski's position is finalized in January 2025.
"[I'm] very pleased with the way everything has gone, and the district's in an incredibly stable position right now," Terry Morawski said at the Fort Smith school board meeting Monday.
Fayetteville Public Schools took to Facebook to congratulate Courtney Morawski on her new position.
"We're very sad to see you go, but we know you will do wonderful things in Granbury," the district said. "Once a Purple Dog, Always a Purple Dog!"
