FEMA: Tornado victims who already paid for recovery expenses could still be reimbursed

Items include clothing, appliances, furniture and more.
Arkansas continues to recover and heal from the tornadoes.

BENTON COUNTY, ARKANSAS, Ark. — According to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), it is not too late to apply for aid. 

Memorial Day Weekend tornado victims can still apply for reimbursement on recovery expenses that have already been purchased out of pocket. Residents are encouraged to keep the receipts.

Items include:

  • Clothes
  • Room furnishings
  • Disability equipment
  • Household appliances
  • Tools used for employment or school 

"FEMA can only approve home repairs that are necessary to restore the home to a habitable condition," FEMA said.

This assistance is offered to residents in Baxter Benton, Boone, Fulton, Greene, Madison, Marion, and Randolph counties. 

Requirements:

To receive personal property assistance the following is required: 

  • The items must be damaged due to the severe weather.
  • The applicant does not have another similar item to replace the damaged one.
  • The items must be owned by someone within the household.

How do I apply?

There are many ways residents can apply for FEMA disaster assistance. Residents can apply:

- Online: disasterassistance.gov

- Via App: FEMA App

- Over the Phone: 800-621-3362 from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. (Most languages available).

Benton County residents can visit the Disaster Recovery Center at the Northwest Arkansas Community College in the Shewmaker Center for Workforce Technologies at 1000 SE Eagle Way, room B103, in Bentonville. Open from Monday to Saturday, between 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. The last day to apply is Aug. 28.
