Flu Awareness Campaign underway in Fayetteville amid low vaccination rates

The awareness campaign will be held throughout the month of February at the VA Fayetteville Medical Center located at 1100 N. College Ave.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The VA Fayetteville Medical Center is hosting a Flu Vaccine Awareness Campaign amid the flu season peak. According to the Arkansas Department of Health (ADH), pharmacies and medical offices are seeing low flu vaccination rates nationwide.

ADH says a total of 7.6 million fewer doses were administered to adults in January 2024 compared to last year.

"Don’t let the warm weather fool you," said ADH. While flu season starts in October and ends in May, its peak season is in February, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The awareness campaign will be held throughout the month of February at the VA Fayetteville Medical Center located at 1100 N. College Ave.

The campaign will cover the following subjects:

  • benefits to getting vaccinated.
  • statistics of types of complications if not vaccinated.
  • where/how to get vaccinated.
  • How long the vaccine is available.
  • Different types of vaccines available at the VA in Fayetteville
