ARKANSAS, USA — A former Arkansas local district court judge has now been convicted for making false statements to the FBI.

According to reports, 64-year-old Thomas David Carruth of Clarendon had previously served as the Monroe County district court judge. While in that role he presided over both civil and criminal matters.

In April 2022, Caruth allegedly solicited sex from the girlfriend of a defendant in a criminal case. The jury discovered that when the FBI questioned him in regard to the incident he reportedly lied to other agents about what happened. He falsely stated that he did not "request, ask, offer, make “overture[s] about, insinuate, or even [think] about, sex with the girlfriend."

Caruth was convicted on one count of making false statements and was acquitted of charges of bribery, honest services fraud, and violations of the Travel Act.

He faces a maximum penalty of five years in prison.
