FORT SMITH, Ark. — The City of Fort Smith begins its free holiday downtown parking for the season with an added twist.
Instead of waiving parking fees until Jan. 5, the city said the free parking will be in effect from Nov. 24 until March 31, 2024.
This extension will help the city gather information on parking habits in Fort Smith's Downtown area.
Captain Daniel Grubbs with the Fort Smith Police Department helped the city make the announcement via Facebook on Nov. 22.
"No paying any parking meters downtown, so let's enjoy the holidays. Come downtown to the entertainment district. Enjoy our restaurants, our shops," Grubbs said on Facebook.
The announcement comes right before holiday shopping begins and, more specifically, before Small Business Saturday rolls around on Nov. 25.
