Fire in Fort Smith was set intentionally, according to local fire department

The Fort Smith Police Department announced on their Facebook around 4 a.m. on Nov. 25 that the fire department was assisting with a fire at 515 Garrison Avenue.

FORT SMITH, Ark. — A fire on the abandoned second floor of the building at 515 Garrison Avenue in Fort Smith was intentionally set, according to Division Chief of Operations with the Fort Smith Fire Department (FSFD) Ethan Millard.

The Fort Smith Police Department (FSPD) announced on their Facebook around 4 a.m. on Nov. 25 that the fire department was assisting with a structural fire in the 500-600 block of Garrison Avenue.

The fire was contained, but there was smoke damage reported in two other buildings connected to the building.

Millard said if the FSFD responded to the scene any later than they did, the building would have been "heavily damaged."

Millard believes it was most likely set by a homeless person trying to get warm.

No arrests have been made. Authorities will continue to investigate.
