FORT SMITH, Ark. — The Fort Smith Police Department (FSPD) released a community notice warning residents of possible issues preventing Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP) customers from connecting to 911 services on Nov. 6.
Impacted 911 callers may be transferred to non-emergency administrative lines.
The issue was reported by AT&T, whose 911 Resolution Center did not immediately release an estimated repair timeline.
FSPD wants all residents who rely on VOIP to be aware of the potential disruption, and be aware that although 911 calls might not make it through, their systems will notify them of failed calls, and they will try to reach back out in those instances.
Residents can reach FSPD through their non-emergency line at (479) 709-5100.
