Fort Smith asks public for input on increasing walkability

The city is offering input sessions for residents to submit their ideas and concerns about walkability.

FORT SMITH, Ark. — The City of Fort Smith is asking for public input on walkability and accessibility.

The city has scheduled a series of public input meetings to discuss the issue. The sessions will "allow citizens the opportunity to review maps of the network of trails, sidepaths, bike lanes, and sidewalks that will be proposed in the upcoming Active Transportation Plan," according to a release from the city.

The Active Transportation Plan will identify projects and provide the city with guidance for the next 10 to 15 years to build a more walkable, bike-friendly, and accessible community, the release said.

The two sessions are scheduled for:

  • Wednesday, Dec. 13 at 5:15 p.m. - Boys & Girls Club Stephens Unit, 3101 N. 6th St., Fort Smith
  • Thursday, Dec. 14 at 5:15 p.m. - Boys & Girls Club Goldtrap Unit, 8800 Dallas St., Fort Smith

Food will be provided at both events, and kids will have the opportunity to participate in an ornament-decorating craft during the meeting.
