FORT SMITH, Ark. — According to the Fort Smith Police Department, the plans to test the city's sirens have been rescheduled.
Officials said a siren test will be held on Thursday, May 23. The testing was originally set to be performed at noon on May 22, but due to severe weather, the plans were canceled.
As of Thursday morning, a level 2 out of 5 risk for severe weather is in place. Rain chances are anticipated to be isolated, so not everyone will see rain or storms but officials want to ensure the sirens are still working in case of an emergency.
The testing will be for an "emergency alert siren," instead of a tornado siren, which officials said have different sounds.
Officials said the tornado alert is a single tone, while the emergency alert is a "rising and falling tone."
Fort Smith residents can expect to hear the siren at noon, according to police.
