Greenwood fire prompts joint evacuation efforts between police and fire department, police say

GFD has now reported that the evacuations have been canceled as the fire is under control.

GREENWOOD, Arkansas — 2 p.m. update: The Greenwood Fire Department has confirmed that a perimeter around the fire has been created, and the evacuations have been called off.

According to Sebastian County Emergency Management (SCEM) and the Greenwood Police Department (GPD), emergency personnel have responded to a fire near Norwood Drive in Greenwood that caused evacuations on Oct. 29.

SCEM has confirmed that at least three agencies responded to the fire, and more information will be released as the situation develops. GPD is also on the scene of the fire providing support.

GPD said in an update that the fire is between the Maple Ridge Estates and Hill Top Heights neighborhoods and that the forestry service has arrived on the scene with bulldozers, but no buildings have been damaged yet.
