Bridge crews will begin routine inspection of the I-540 bridge across the Arkansas River in Fort Smith

The Arkansas Department of Transportation said southbound and northbound lane closures are scheduled between April 22 and April 30 for the I-540 bridge inspection.

FORT SMITH, Ark. — Bridge crews will begin inspecting the I-540 bridge across the Arkansas River in Fort Smith on April 22, according to the Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT).

Due to the routine bridge inspection, alternating southbound and northbound lane closures are scheduled for Monday, April 22, through Tuesday, April 30.

The daily inspection will begin at 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. The outside lane going north and south will be closed during the inspection times.

"At least one lane of traffic will remain open at all times," ARDOT says.

Cones and signs will direct traffic. ARDOT asks drivers to use caution when driving on the bridge.
