WASHINGTON COUNTY, ARKANSAS, Ark. — Arkansas State Police have been contacted to investigate the death of an inmate at the Washington County Jail on Friday.
A spokesperson for the Washington County Sheriff's Office (WCSO) confirmed the death to 5NEWS at around 3:10 p.m. on Nov. 22.
According to the spokesperson, detention officers found the detainee in her cell unresponsive. She was reportedly by herself and there were no obvious signs of cause of death.
Lifesaving measures were initiated by jail personnel until emergency services arrived, the spokesperson added.
"As is normal procedure, we contacted Arkansas State Police to conduct an investigation," WCSO said. "The coroner will transport the body to the Arkansas State Medical Examiner’s Office to determine cause of death. An internal review will also be conducted to ensure compliance with Washington County policies and procedures."
