New upgrades underway for Kessler Mountain's trailhead

Developers plan to extend the trailhead by 400 feet to the intersection of MLK Jr. Boulevard, Rupple Road, and Smokehouse Trail.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Kessler Mountain is one of Fayetteville's most popular hiking trails, and it's getting some upgrades that aim to better connect the trails with the city.

Developers plan to extend the trailhead by 400 feet to the intersection of MLK Jr. Boulevard, Rupple Road, and Smokehouse Trail. However, the project's planners still need to raise about $7,500 to complete the work.

Sculptures will also be added to the entrance of the new trailhead. The first installation is called "Annie" and depicts a female hiker. While sharing Kessler Mountain's future plans, the park welcomed Annie on Aug. 9. The second sculpture, which has yet to be unveiled, will display a mountain biker.

Additionally, new directional signs will be added to the entrance to improve accessibility and show visitors all the park has to offer.

Once everything is complete, planners hope Kessler Mountain will be a premier destination for outdoor enthusiasts.

"We hope to make a very welcoming entrance to the trail of Kessler Mountain," Frank Sharp said. "It will be a very visible trailhead now."
