Lamar School District temporarily cancels school after power outage

Johnson County Judge Herman Houston said the entire city of Lamar is without power.

LAMAR, Ark. — According to the Lamar School District, school's out — at least for Monday, Aug. 19.

Spurred on by a swift cold front, storms swept through the area on Saturday, Aug. 17, and Sunday, Aug. 18 downing power lines with high winds.

According to an Arkansas power outage map, over 10% of Johnson County was without power as of Monday morning.

With two-thirds of the county dealing with storm damage, Johnson County Judge Herman Houston said he made an emergency declaration. He said the entire city of Lamar is without power.

For more information about the school's closure, residents can visit the school district website here.
