LE FLORE COUNTY, Okla. — A mobile home fire in LeFlore County left one person dead on Saturday, according to the sheriff's office.

LeFlore County Sheriff Rodney Derryberry confirmed to 5NEWS that the blaze occurred outside of Bokoshe city limits on Nov. 23.

Derryberry said that the fire happened on Carters Lake Road at around 8:24 a.m. He said that a grandmother called in the fire and told authorities that her 18-year-old grandson, who was disabled, was possibly trapped inside.

The sheriff's office, alongside multiple fire departments and other law enforcement agencies, responded to the fire but by the time they arrived the mobile home was fully engulfed, Derryberry said.

According to the sheriff, the State Fire Marshal has been contacted and is handling the investigation, and there were remains located at the scene, although the identity of those remains has not yet been shared.

"A tragedy for the family and loved ones. Prayers go out from all who were trying to help," Derryberry said.
