Roofers in Benton County respond to hundreds of calls after May 26 storms

The owners of Brown Boys Roofing said following the storms, they had more calls in one week than in the last two years combined.

BENTON COUNTY, ARKANSAS, Ark. — Roof damage has been a major concern for many people following the May 26 tornadoes, and local roofing companies say they are working as fast as they can to get the damage fixed.

Will and Robert Brown, owners of Brown Boys Roofing, said that in the week after the storms, they averaged 230 calls a day.  They said this is more calls in one week than in the last two years combined.

The Brown brothers said the main repairs needed are for shingles blown off and wind damage, and the worst of it is extensive tree damage.

They added that Brown Boys Roofing has 26 employees working nonstop to address roofing repairs across the area. However, due to the extent of the damage, they say it could take weeks to months to reach all of the homes.

Will Brown said one of the biggest challenges is not being able to help everyone who is dealing with extensive damage.

“We had a call from one of our guys out in the field,” Brown said. “He just called just to process. He's just fighting back tears because he's like, ‘We can't help all these people.’ [You see] the houses that are just missing, and what do you do? Try and do what you can, and help as many as you can, and go to sleep, and try again tomorrow.”

Another big concern is tarping roofs to prevent further water damage. The Browns said so far, they have been able to tarp about 20 roofs a day, and that number will increase as more trees are cleared off roads, making it easier for them to access homes.
