LOGAN COUNTY, Arkansas — The Logan County Election Commission certified the 2024 primary results on March 13 after a candidate was left off of some residents' ballots during early voting, according to a press release.
Philip Blankenship was running against Samuel Tabler for the justice of the peace District 9 seat.
Blankenship told 5NEWS on March 8 that when he and his wife voted early, his wife discovered his name wasn't on the ballot. Instead, there were candidates on the ballot for the wrong district.
"I had to kind of explain this is a pretty big issue for me not to be on her ballot because I'm not electable. I'm on the ballot in the wrong district," Blankenship said last week.
According to the press release, the commission met with Blankenship days after the primary election about the omission of Blankenship's race from "one of the five precinct ballot types."
"This issue was discovered during early voting and the Logan County Election Commission exhausted every resource to implement a solution, giving voters the correct ballot going forward," the release said.
After speaking with the election commission, Blankenship believes they did everything to try and fix the mistake, but he said he was left wondering how many people received the wrong ballot for their district.
"After a diligent and thorough investigation on the impact of the above issue, the commission has determined that the outcome of the District 9 race was not affected," the release said.
