Man arrested for attempted capital murder after alleged road rage incident in Siloam Springs

Darius Gonzalez reportedly admitted to police that he fired two rounds into the ground.

SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. — A 20-year-old man was arrested for attempted capital murder after an alleged road incident in Siloam Springs on June 7, according to court documents.

In addition to the attempted capital murder charge, Darius Gonzalez was booked into the Benton County Jail for two counts of negligent discharge, unlawful discharge of a firearm in a vehicle, two counts of terroristic threatening, aggravated assault, and speeding. He is being held on a $250,000 bond.

According to the probable cause affidavit, police responded to a call about gunshots on East University Street in Siloam Springs on June 6. When officers arrived on the scene, they interviewed the alleged victims of the incident.

The two people reportedly told police they were backing out of a parking space to leave Dollar General when a purple Scion sped through the parking lot, almost hitting them. Police later identified Gonzalez as the driver of the Scion.

The driver of the other car told police he flipped Gonzalez off "for the reckless driving," according to the report.

He then told police Gonzalez turned southbound on a road that he also needed to take "because it was the route to his residence," the report said. When Gonzalez turned down another street, the driver told police he flipped him off again and then dropped his passenger off.

After the man dropped his passenger off, Gonzalez reportedly pulled up next to him. The report says the two began yelling and cursing at each other, and Gonzalez allegedly pointed a gun at the driver. The passenger then approached Gonzalez and told him to "f*** off and drop it." The driver and the passenger told police they heard Gonzalez fire two shots but didn't see the shots happen.

According to the report, the driver tried to find his passenger to make sure they were uninjured. Once they confirmed they were both OK, Gonzalez had already fled the scene.

After looking into traffic cameras, police reportedly matched the Scion to Gonzalez. On June 7, police stopped Gonzalez for speeding and he was then detained for questioning.

During the interview with police, Gonzalez reportedly admitted to driving through the Dollar General parking lot. He also said the driver flipped him off twice and started following him. Gonzalez told police he decided to turn around and follow them to "see what their problem was," the report said.

Gonzalez told police he and the driver "exchanged words" and the passenger began running toward them, throwing items at his car that later busted his front window, according to the report.

"Gonzalez stated he was scared, did not know if they had guns, and pointed his gun out the window," the report said.

He reportedly admitted to police that he fired two rounds into the ground.

Gonzalez is set to appear in court on July 15.
