Man pleads guilty to killing 1 after crashing his car into Barling restaurant

On June 28, 2024, Stevens changed his plea to guilty less than two weeks ahead of his scheduled jury trial.

BARLING, Ark. — A man who crashed his truck into the Blue Agave restaurant in Barling on Nov. 22, 2023, was sentenced to prison for negligent homicide and six counts of criminal mischief on June 28, 2024, according to court documents.

Larry Stevens, 66, was arrested shortly after the crash and booked into the Sebastian County Detention Center. According to the crash report, Stevens was driving in the parking lot, failed to stop, and ran through the north wall of the restaurant at 302 Fort St. in Barling around 4:30 p.m. 

ASP reported that Stevens struck five people seated in the restaurant, killing one and injuring four. The deceased victim was identified as Heather White, 48, of Rogers.

On Nov. 28, 2023, Sebastian County Prosecutor Daniel Shue announced Stevens was charged with negligent homicide for reportedly driving while intoxicated, resulting in the crash.

On June 28, 2024, Stevens changed his plea to guilty less than two weeks ahead of his scheduled jury trial and was sentenced to 27 years in prison, with an additional 13-year sentence suspended, according to court docs.
