ROGERS, Ark. — A 12-year-old was shot by his younger brother on Wednesday morning, according to the Rogers Police Department (RPD).

RPD said the shooting took place at the Eighth Street Motel near Rogers Heritage High School at around 7 a.m. on Oct. 9.

When police arrived, they said they found a 12-year-old with a gunshot wound with life-threatening injuries. RPD said he was transferred via helicopter to a hospital.

During the investigation, police said they learned the shooter was the boy's 11-year-old brother. The brother was identified as a suspect by police and was soon taken into custody, according to officials.

The weapon turned out to be stolen from a nearby vehicle hours earlier, police said. The 11-year-old is reportedly being charged in the case. However, investigators said they are still working to determine whether this was an accidental shooting.

RPD said this is still an active investigation, and they would provide details when they are available.
