ROGERS, Ark. — The ruins of the historic resort town of Monte Ne, which have been underwater for decades, are currently visible amid ongoing drought conditions in Northwest Arkansas.
Usually underwater, the ruins were visible on Oct. 23 as water levels at Beaver Lake receded.
The resort town was built by former presidential candidate William Harvey. Monte Ne experienced its peak in the 1920s and at one point was a destination for people from all across the country.
Monte Ne fell into the hands of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers after the White River was dammed to create Beaver Lake in the mid-1960s. The ruins of the resort have been under the lake ever since.
