Mountainburg man dies after single-vehicle accident

James Morgan, 83, was traveling north on Highway 71 near Mountainburg when we failed to turn at a curve and ran off the roadway to the east side of the highway.

MOUNTAINBURG, Ark. — A Mountainburg man involved in a one-vehicle accident in Crawford County died, according to a fatal crash report released on Jan. 9. 

James Morgan, 83, was traveling north on Highway 71 around 10 a.m. on Jan. 5 near Mountainburg when we failed to turn at a curve and ran off the roadway to the east side of the highway.

While veering off the road, Morgan struck a culvert with the front of his car. The vehicle then went airborne and landed on its wheel in the ditch. 

According to the report, Morgan was transported to Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville, where he later died from his injuries.

Cindy Murphy, the communications director of the Arkansas Department of Public Safety, couldn't confirm when Morgan died but said Arkansas State Police was notified of the victim's death on Jan. 9.
