National Weather Service confirms tornadoes in Arkansas, Oklahoma

Two tornadoes have been confirmed so far, but additional confirmations and ratings are possible in the days to come

ARKANSAS, USA — The National Weather Service Tulsa damage survey teams confirmed that tornadoes hit eastern Oklahoma and Northwest Arkansas on Nov. 4. 

The NWS says additional damage surveys and analysis of other damage areas will continue this week.

Tenkiller tornado

Meteorologists identified EF2 damage from a tornado that developed southwest of Tenkiller in Cherokee County, Oklahoma before moving northeast into Adair County north of Caney Creek and eventually into the Christie community. The tornado widened to 1,200 yards as it approached the Oklahoma-Arkansas state line. The tornado moved into the northwest corner of Washington County before crossing into Benton County and dissipating after crossing state Highway 16. 

In total, the tornado was on the ground for 32.8 miles. Based on the damage surveyed, meteorologists estimate that peak winds reached 120 mph.

Officials found the tornado uprooted or snapped numerous trees and destroyed outbuildings. 

No injuries or fatalities have been associated with this storm. 

Siloam Springs tornado 

Meteorologists identified EF1 damage from a tornado that developed 3 miles northeast of Lake Francis in western Benton County. The tornado moved northeast, crossing Arkansas Highway 412 west of Fairmount Road. The tornado dissipated south of Water Tower Road It uprooted numerous trees, damaged some homes, and snapped multiple power poles. 

At one point, the tornado was 550 yards wide and was on the ground for 4.6 miles with peak winds up to 105 mph. 

No injuries or fatalities have been associated with this storm.
