ROGERS, Ark. — Two teens were arrested in connection to a shooting that took place near Promenade Mall in Rogers on Monday, Nov. 13, according to court documents.
According to the Rogers Police Department (RPD), a teen sustained non-life-threatening injuries after being shot around 9 p.m. on Nov. 13 when he and three other teens tried to steal "THC cartridges" during a drug deal that turned into a chase.
RPD says that after taking the cartridges, the four alleged victims drove off quickly before being followed by two suspects in an SUV. While chasing the four teens, the two suspects fired "at least two shots at the victim's vehicle," before the victims were cornered at the Rogers Fire Department, police say.
The four teens reportedly drove back out onto the street where they passed the suspects and were shot at further. According to 911 audio, the alleged victims were instructed to stop near the Rogers Promenade so that police could make contact and the chase could end.
Court records show 19-year-old Jordan Joan Rascon-Montanez was arrested on Nov. 15 and refused to be interviewed without a lawyer present. A search warrant was also conducted at his home on the 1800 block of West Olrich Street by RPD. During the search, police say they found "a partial box of a 50-round box of IMI 9mm ammunition" on his nightstand with 32 rounds missing. Police say the remaining cartridges were stamped "IMI 9mm 20."
Other items found at Rascon's home according to the affidavit were:
- A Glock 19 gun
- Electronic scales
- Glass pipes
- 1.7 grams of "suspected marijuana"
- "Numerous suspected THC" vapes
- 15 "suspected THC" vape cartridges in the tank of the toilet
- 26 "suspected THC" vape cartridges in a black Adidas bag
- 56.2 grams of "suspected marijuana"
In Rascon's vehicle, police also found a 10-pack of "suspected THC" vape cartridges in the center console and a "9mm bullet," in the passenger door compartment.
While the search was taking place, the affidavit says a detective spoke with a witness who tipped police about the second suspect, Nethanel Morales, and the vehicle he drove. The detective then showed the witness the photo of the suspect vehicle and the witness confirmed it looked like Nethanel's.
Police were able to get video evidence of the two suspects leaving Rascon's home just before the shooting and then returning 17 minutes after the shooting, according to the affidavit.
Rascon and Morales are both being charged with attempted murder, first-degree battery, and unlawful discharge of a firearm from a vehicle.
