ARKANSAS, USA — The National Mall in DC recently hosted the Ozarks Program, an exploratory survey into the "unique north American region and the varied groups who call it home," as part of the Smithsonian Folklife Festival, where a new comprehensive map of the Ozarks was displayed.
According to Missouri State University (MSU), the Ozarks Program worked with the City of Branson, the Society of Ozarkian Hillcrofters, and the Ozarks Study Institute to more accurately depict how territorial boundaries are "murky and fluid." MSU says "The boundaries of the Ozark region always have been open to debate and discussion."
The new map controversially labels parts of southern Illinois as falling under the Ozark umbrella, which has "generated some lively discussion on social media."
