LE FLORE COUNTY, Okla. — New information has been released in the case of 18-year-old Miguel Reyes who is accused of killing a toddler in a drunk driving crash on April 14.
According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Reyes was driving eastbound on US-270 when he veered off the roadway at 250th Avenue and drove through a fence of a residence near the highway, killing a 4-year-old playing in their yard.
After suffering minor injuries, Reyes was charged with first-degree manslaughter, driving under the influence, and reckless driving. He is being held on a 75,500 bond, according to police.
On Wednesday, April 16, prosecutors filed a motion asking the judge to "strengthen" Reyes' bond, saying they believe he is a flight risk. Prosecutors allege Reyes had "potential plans" to flee to Mexico.
Meanwhile, Reyes' attorney also filed a motion asking the judge to reduce his bond, saying Reyes is not a flight risk or a threat to society.
On Monday, April 22, Reyes pleaded not guilty to all charges, according to court records. The judge decided to keep his bond at $75,500 but will add the requirement of an ankle monitor or GPS tracker.
Court records also state that Reyes will not be allowed to drive, contact the victim's family, use any intoxicating substances, and may not leave the state of Oklahoma.
His next court date is set for July 25 at 9 a.m.
