NWA Council taking applications from local businesses for free glass recycling program

For businesses interested in joining the program, the deadline to sign up is Aug. 31.

SPRINGDALE, Ark. — The Northwest Arkansas Council is offering a new program that will allow 50 businesses to recycle glass for free.

This new initiative aims to increase the number of restaurants, bars, and liquor stores recycling glass in the area. NWA Council is partnering with Epic Glass Recycling of Little Rock to execute the NWA Recycles program.

"This glass initiative can ramp up what I personally want to see achieved in our community and throughout Northwest Arkansas when it comes to glass," Springdale Mayor Doug Sprouse said. "EPIC is the right partner, and it's able to make glass recycling easy and affordable for the businesses that participate."

They are offering four months of free glass recycling to 50 businesses in Benton and Washington County.

"We're looking to collect glass bottles and glass jars, primarily," Lee Chalmers, coordinator of NWA Recycles, said. "Those are items that Epic can turn into an aggregate material that will be used in building materials."

The glass will be taken to Little Rock where it will be recycled into construction material.

For businesses interested in joining the program, the deadline to sign up is Aug. 31. A form to sign up is available at this link
