Gives Day kicks off in Northwest Arkansas

The goal of the 12 hours of giving is to support local nonprofits and educate the community on their work.

SPRINGDALE, Ark. — NWA Gives Day kicked off April 4 and runs from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

From online donations to in-person visits, organizers said the day of giving is all about supporting local nonprofits.

During NWA Gives Day, people are encouraged to visit several local nonprofits on the Generosity Tour, which runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and make donations to the organizations online.

“The Generosity Tour starts at New Beginnings,” Mark Carter with NWA Gives said. “It’s just a place that people can touch and see what monies go into on these nonprofits. When you go to Rogers to Pedal it Forward, or to The CALL at the end of the day, we're wanting people to understand when you go and give, it's actually making a difference in people's lives.”

Carter said the day of giving makes a big impact in the community, which can be seen by the success of one of the participating nonprofits, New Beginnings in Fayetteville.

“New Beginnings actually started from a gift on NWA Gives Day a few years back, and that's what started the birth of the area for transitional housing,” Carter said. “… Right now, they're trying to raise $75,000 to help a medical respite for patients and people that don't have housing [who] have surgery.”

There are 165 nonprofits participating in NWA Gives Day.

Carter says the goal this year is to raise more than $1 million for the organizations. He said while NWA Gives Day is an extra push to support local nonprofits, people can make donations year round on the NWA Gives website.
