CLARKSVILLE (KFSM) — A member of the Alma School Board was arrested on suspicion of second-degree battery, according to Johnson County Sheriff’s Office jail records.
Paul Winborn, 45, was arrested by Clarksville Police around 7:45 p.m. on Friday (May 6) and released on his own recognizance Monday morning, according to the sheriff’s office.
He is facing second-degree battery charges, which is a felony, jail records show.
Winborn is one of seven members of the Alma School Board.
Alma Superintendent David Woolly wouldn’t comment on the arrest, but said, as with any elected official, Winborn would have to be convicted of a felony before his seat on the school board would be called into question.
Other members of the school board could not be reached Tuesday morning.
Court documents show Winborn and his wife filed for divorce about a year ago and it was finalized last week, according to Winborn’s attorney. Winborn and his ex-wife have two children together, according to court records.
The Clarksville Police Department would not release Winborn’s arrest report and the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office referred 5NEWS to Clarksville police.
The Johnson County prosecutor’s office said they have yet to receive any documents in the case.
Winborn’s ex-wife, Tiffany Brown, filed a protection order against Winborn on Tuesday (May 10), claiming that their daughter had a large bruise on her left arm. Brown stated in the document that Winborn had dragged the girl to get into his truck with him, after Brown had dropped her children off at a Walmart for a weekend visit with their father.
The protection order also stated that Winborn had made fun of his daughter’s weight and eating.
