Annual Highway 22 Yard Sale Prepares for Rain

A rainy forecast could be bad news for a huge annual yard sale in the River Valley.

A rainy forecast could be bad news for a huge annual yard sale in the River Valley. The yard sale kicked off Wednesday stretching nearly 70 miles down Highway 22 from Barling to Dardanelle.

Every year dozens who live along Highway 22 clean out their homes and put their used items up for sale, and hundreds take a drive in search of a bargain.

"I found a bunch of clothes for like 25 cents apiece for my son and my daughter," says shopper Lindsey Stoker.

But this year those preparing their yard sales are also preparing for rain. Helen Todd says she makes a profit at the yard sale every year, but worries her things may get too wet this week.

"If you don't get it covered, stuff ruins and it's a hamper, but you kind of take it with a grain of salt," says Todd.

Todd says she pulled out several tarps to keep things dry. Some shoppers we spoke with say they came out Wednesday to try and beat the rain, but others say they're just getting started.

"I had some this morning when it was pouring,” says Todd, “They was looking under the tarps."

Even with the rain, those like Todd say they'll still be selling as long as there's someone there to buy. The yard sales will wrap up on Highway 22 on Saturday.
