LITTLE ROCK (KTHV) – Food banks and pantries all across Arkansas are seeing major shortages and are asking for the public’s help.

“We would love to feed everyone’s needs but right now it’s just almost impossible,” said Arkansas Rice Depot president Kim Aaron.

The Rice Depot is Arkansas’ only statewide food bank, and it distributes to more than 300 food pantries. Right now, they say they’re at the most critical food levels they’ve seen within the last five years.

“Our real challenge is what you even see on the shelves is not really enough to make a meal for families,” Aaron continued.

She continued, “It’s water, it’s Gatorade and flour, but that’s about it.”

Arkansas is the second-most food insecure state in the nation. One in every five people in the state are not sure of where their next meal will come from, making the need for pantries that much more important.
