BELLA VISTA, Ark. (KFSM) - The City of Bella Vista has more than 550 miles of roads, and the street department hopes its new building will help workers better cover the area.
The nearly 20,000 square foot building has been up and running after several months of construction.
Cassi Lapp, a spokeswoman for the city, said the new building was much needed for street workers.
"They have all the equipment that they need here, and they can access it," said Lapp. "There's better storage for all of the things that they need on a day-to-day basis."
Street department employees have been using the new space since late April.
It was designed to allow workers to better serve the community, especially during winter months, according to Michael Marlow, foreman of the department.
"This place, when it snows, we'll be able to get every dump truck inside. As well as every pick up and that will help in the mornings when snow's been falling," said Marlow. "There won't be stuff all over our vehicles."
The new location is no accident, according to Lapp, who said the Arkansas Highway 279 site was chosen because it's centrally located in Bella Vista.
"Being able to get to places quicker and being in one central location," said Marlow. "It'll just take us about the same about of time to get to anywhere."
The project cost about $2.2 million, according to Lapp, who said it came in under budget.
