CENTERTON (KFSM) -- The new Bentonville West High School in Centerton opened its doors to the public Friday (July 29).
The school has been three years in the making and hundreds came out to celebrate the big day before the inaugural class of wolverines starts in August.
“I`m excited because we are going to be the first class to go all four years and it`s a great way to start off the new year and be a part of this new experience,” Ariana Stanfield said.
Ariana Stanfield is part of Bentonville West's first freshman class.
Her mom said she was amazed when she walked through the doors to see everything she has been hearing about for so long.
“When I heard they were trying to build a new school I was very satisfied, just because you want your child to have the best education and not to many kids in one classroom for one teacher,” Tiffany Rogers said.
The school has more than 100 classrooms, 14 computer labs and a performing arts center that can seat 900.
On top of that there's a coffee bar, media center and competition gym for more than 2,000 spectators.
"I am really excited because we get to start new traditions and new pep rallies and all this other fun stuff,” Megan Martin said.
Megan Martin will also be a freshman come August.
Her mom said their family recently moved to the area and chose this part of town specifically because of the new school.
'”She would be able to start new traditions, create a new foundation that would last a lifetime," Sheri Martin said. "This is something that we believe strongly in...In working together and the community and the organization and we felt this was the perfect opportunity for her to learn and grow."
On August 15th, 1,200 ninth through eleventh graders will walk through the doors ready to learn and continue the legacy of the district.
Bentonville West will start the 2016-2017 school year with grades nine through eleven.
That means its first senior class won't graduate until 2018...
Voters approved a tax to build the new school because of overcrowding concerns at Bentonville High.
