5NEWS This Morning is on a mouthwatering mission to find the best local burgers.
At Ed Walker's in Fort Smith, you can get both quality and quantity on the same bun with the jumbo burger. It's a five pound burger with two and a half pounds of meat. It is twelve inches across.
"If you can eat it in 45 minutes with a side of french fries and a drink, it's free," owner Ted Cserna said. "Many have tried; few have succeeded."
The jumbo burger is a unique tradition at Ed Walker's, and it's not a simple grilling process.
"The patty is hand-patted like all of our patties are except for there is about five of them put together there, and we hand patty that out and just have to slow cook it on the grill," Cserna said. "It takes about 30 minutes."
The bun is so large it has to be custom made in the bakery. If you're not up for the personal five pound challenge, bring the family for a fun burger experience.
"Usually families of five or six come and order it," Cserna said. "We cut it up like a pie and they can eat it like that."
The jumbo burger isn't Ed Walker's only claim to fame. It's one of the oldest restaurants in Fort Smith and still provides a service you won't find anywhere else in the natural state.
"We're still the last place in the state of Arkansas where you can come flash your headlights, and we can bring a beer out to your car," Cserna said.
