CRAWFORD COUNTY (KFSM) — The shooting suspect in the death of Deputy Cpl. Bill Cooper was taken to a local hospital Wednesday (August 10) after his arrest, per jail policy.
Sheriff Ron Brown said that because Billy Jones, 34, was acting incoherently and had open wounds on his face, he was taken to the hospital to get cleaned up before being booked into the Crawford County Jail.
Brown said deputies believed Jones was still under the influence of methamphetamine and marijuana.
Once Jones was returned to the jail, he was processed and placed in a confined cell, not allowed to have contact with anyone because of the nature of the incident.
Jones was on medical watch overnight, and jail staff checked on him every 15 minutes. Brown said Jones woke up Thursday morning and talked and communicated normally.
Brown said he believed rumors surfaced of Jones being beaten in jail because his booking photo shared to social media showed bandages on his face. Those were from his treatment received at the hospital, before he was processed into the jail.
