FORT SMITH (KFSM) - The Sebastian County Quorum Court and the Fort Smith Board of Directors met to look at the progress of the aquatic center being built in Fort Smith. City officials met in Ben Geren Park to take a look at the new water park and to see what progress it has made.
The concrete has been poured for the the lazy river and the wave pool. Also, the roof is already up on the bath house. That is what city officials looked at Thursday (Oct.9). After that, they discussed management and advertising for the grand opening which is on schedule meaning the park will be up and running by Memorial Day of next year as promised.
It will feature a wave pool, lazy river, and four water slides once its all done. So far, Sebastian County Judge David Hudson said everything is staying on schedule. The meeting was more of a formality just so that the public can know the progress being made.
"It's a status update, people are interested," said Hudson. "Its important to keep the public and everyone informed and connect them to the project so that can support it when its opened."
City officials also had another meeting to discuss the Ben Geren safe shelter.
