PARIS (KFSM) -- The Walmart in town hasn’t had working bathrooms for almost a month. In the meantime, customers and employees have to use portable restrooms outdoors.
“Well I think that's not very good because it is so hot, and people shouldn't have to go outdoors to go to the bathroom,” Ruthie Walker said.
Walker said she shops at the Walmart in Paris once a week. She said she was surprised to learn portable restrooms are the only option until the plumbing issues are fixed. An air-conditioned trailer was set up on Friday (July 22), according to a store employee, but it’s not handicap accessible.
“They need to change that as soon as possible,” Walker said.
Walmart said the event trailer has air-conditioning, a changing table, running water and other amenities. The company said the Porta Potties do accommodate the handicapped and gave 5NEWS this statement:
“We want our customers and associates to be comfortable at all times while inside our store. Unfortunately, a recent plumbing issue has forced us to make accommodations for those needing to use our restroom facilities.
Temporary restrooms were brought in while repairs are made. Those facilities are accessible to everyone and include changing stations for parents and their young children.”
“I personally have an issue with Porta Potties,” Garrett Conkin said. “I just find them disgusting.”
Walmart said the bathrooms inside have been closed for a little more than three weeks, and it is taking bids to get them repaired. Walker said the problem won’t stop her from shopping there.
“I believe I would just try to arrange my visit to where I wouldn't have to use the restroom, and since I don't have any little ones, it doesn't concern me that much,” she said.
The store’s manager said he hopes to have the repairs complete in a few weeks.
