A Faulkner County sheriff’s deputy died Monday (April 8) after collapsing following a Special Weapons and Tactics training session in North Little Rock.
Deputy Hans Fifer, 32, leaves behind a wife and two daughters ages 3 and 5, according to a report from our Little Rock affiliate KTHV.
Sheriff Andy Shock said Deputy Fifer is believed to have suffered a “cardiac event.”
Fifer began experiencing shortness of breath during the training and was administered oxygen, shortly after he began suffering chest pains and collapsed, according to Shock.
Fifer was taken to Springhill Baptist Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
Sheriff Shock said he believes Fifer may have had a health problem which he was not aware of.
Fifer had served as a full time deputy for only four months with the Faulkner County Sheriff’s Office. He was previously a reserve deputy and with the Cabot Police Department for five years, according to the Officer Down Memorial Page.
