A high-speed car chase on Interstate 40 ended with a wanted fugitive from Alabama dead on Sunday (Dec. 8).
The release states that the man was wanted in an Alabama homicide investigation.
An Arkansas State Police trooper initiated a traffic stop at 12:50 p.m. near Clarksville after identifying a vehicle that matched a description associated with the fugitive, according to a news release.
A woman fled on foot from the car and the fugitive took the driver's side and drove off westbound. A high-speed chase ensued covering two counties and spike strips were deployed at mile marker 12, towards Alma, according to the release.
After the chase, a trooper approached the stopped car and found the driver dead of an apparent self-inflicted gun shot wound, according to the release.
The identity of the fugitive and woman have not been released. The woman is in custody in Franklin County.
