DEVIL’S DEN (KFSM)– Although heavy rain has caused flooding across the region, trails at Devil’s Den State Park were not affected.
Park Assistant Superintendent Tim Scott said the water is noticeably higher, but nothing to be concerned about.
“Right now we are about four to five feet higher than [the water level] is normally,” Scott said. “Now, this is fairly normal flow for this time of year. It is a little bit high, but nothing unusual.”
To get the water downstream faster, park rangers opened up the floodgates at the spillway on Lee Creek Tuesday (May 26.) Scott said the park's location and landscape can handle large amounts of water better than other parts of the area.
“Watershed here comes up real fast,” Scott said. “But, it also goes down real fast.”
Scott encourages outdoor enthusiasts to take advantage of the additional water in the park and the spectacular views it's created.
“If you like water, this is the perfect time to come hiking,” Scott said. “Waterfalls were really going.”
