BENTONVILLE (KFSM) -- A historic home in Bentonville could be demolished any day.

The home, which sits off the Bentonville Square on West Central Avenue, belonged to the parents of aviator Louise Thaden. She lived there for two years before attending the University of Arkansas. Thaden grew popular in the 1930s, when she competed against Amelia Earhart in air races.

Thaden's daughter, Patricia Thaden Webb, said she would like to see the home moved to the Bentonville Airport which is named after her mother.

"It means so much to mom and she would take my brother and I back for visits all the time when we were growing up," said Webb.

Those wishing to preserve the home are wanting to save the fireplace, which is covered in crystals from a Bella Vista cave.

City council member James Smith also started a petition this week to preserve historic homes in the future.

Smith is holding a public meeting Monday (May 23) to gauge the interest in his proposal.
