Father’s Day Packs Area Parks

Father’s Day, a holiday commemorating father figures across the world, has been celebrated for more than a century.

Father's Day, a holiday commemorating father figures across the world, has been celebrated for more than a century.

Despite the heat, Northwest Arkansas parks were extra packed Sunday; and while many were still celebrating Saturday night's Razorback win against Kent State, they also turned their attention to Dad.

Families came together at Murphy Park in Springdale to celebrate the father figures in their lives.

One local church pastor brought his congregation out to the park for a special Father's Day barbecue.

The church opened its arms, hearts and their grill to everyone.

"We are blessed with a great day, good weather,” said Pastor Tardel Voss. “Our church invited their friends, we have a lot of friends and guests with us and we have found some people walking around the park so we invited them to join us. Yeah, we have a good turnout."

Rudy Sanchez’s five daughters and four sons all came together Sunday for their dad.

"Well, that's everything,” Sanchez said. “The fact is, is that we live in a very blessed nation, but part of that is the children that are around us. To be able to celebrate with my children, all 9 of them, it's a great blessing."

Voss said he is not a father, yet, so he celebrated his own father as well as those in his church congregation.

"I was blessed by God with a great father, and I know what it means to have this connection with your family, with your father," said Voss.
