FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM) -- A man suspected of robbing a bank in Fayetteville Thursday (July 28) has been identified as Mark Matthews, 48, according to his arrest report.
Matthews walked into First State Bank on Joyce Boulevard around 4:30 p.m. wearing an obvious disguise and handed the teller a note demanding an unspecified amount of money, the report states. The teller handed the money to the suspect and he left the building on foot.
A witness called 911 and was able to give officers a general description of where Matthews went after discarding his disguise, according to the report.
Officer found Matthews about 20 minutes later along Mudd Creek Trail near Old Missouri Road, the report states. He was in possession of the stolen money, according to the report.
During interviews with police, Matthews admitted to preparing to rob the bank and wearing a disguise to do it, the report states.
Matthews is being held at the Washington County Detention Center on suspicion of robbery, jail records show. His bond has not yet been set.
