FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM)- The Fayetteville Police Department arrested a man Sunday (Nov. 30) night after he threatened a church congregation, according to an arrest report.

At about 7 p.m. Sunday night, Justin Wood, 33, of Fayetteville came into the White Rock Pentecostal Church on Wedington Drive during worship and told the pastor to put his microphone down, according to the report. The pastor told police he was intimidated, so he complied with Wood, who then approached the stage and told the congregation the pastor was spreading and teaching them lies, the report stated.

The pastor told officers he let Wood talk because he didn’t want to make him angrier by disagreeing with him. He also said Wood slapped his hand away when he tried to put it on his shoulder, according to the report.

A member of the church followed Wood out of the building to make sure he didn’t come back inside. According to the police report, that’s when Wood glared at the church member and raised his shirt to reveal the butt of a handgun that was in his waistband. The church member told police he ran back inside the church after feeling threatened when Wood put his hand on the gun, the report stated. The congregation then called 911.

The pastor told officers Wood appeared intoxicated with slurred speech and smell of alcohol coming from him, the report stated.

Officers arrested Wood around 11 p.m. at his home and found the gun used during the incident in a shed in his backyard, according to the report.

Wood was taken to Washington Regional Medical Center for treatment and then was booked into the Washington County Detention Center on $10,000 bond. He is facing a felony charge of Terroristic Threatening in the first degree, according to the arrest report.
