FORT SMITH (KFSM) – The small schools in Hartford have been given the green light to join the larger Hackett School District.
The state Board of Education on Thursday (Dec. 11) unanimously accepted the Hartford district’s request to consolidate voluntarily with the Hackett School District, said board member Jay Barth. Hartford has an elementary school and high school, according to the Hartford district’s website.
The Hartford schools will remain open but will be a part of the Hackett School District, Barth said. The change takes effect for the 2015-2106 school year, he said. It was required because the Hartford schools fell below the state-mandated enrollment level of 350 students, he said.
The Hartford High football team played its last home game in October.
