Fayetteville police have caught up to a West Fork man they say left the scene of an injury car crash last week.

Casey O’Connor, 32, was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of leaving the scene of a personal injury accident. He remained Wednesday in the Washington County Detention Center on $8,500 bond, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

Emergency crews responded last Wednesday to the scene of a car wreck with injury near Gregg Avenue and Elm Street in Fayetteville. In an attempt to avoid a rear-end collision, O’Connor crashed into the front end of a vehicle that was turning off of Gregg, bruising the alleged victim’s left side, causing a head contusion and cracking a tooth, according to a preliminary report from the Washington County Prosecutor’s Office.

O’Connor left the crash scene without stopping or checking on the victim, police said. Investigators later used the victim’s description of O’Connor’s vehicle to find him, the report states.

There were paint chips, extensive damage and paint missing on O’Connor’s vehicle, according to the preliminary report. O’Connor’s alleged passenger positively identified O’Connor as the vehicle’s driver, police said.

The female passenger told police O’Connor had no insurance for the vehicle and fled because they were scared, according to the report.

The woman told police they had a cell phone, but did not call anyone for help.
