LOGAN COUNTY (KFSM) -- People living near Hidden Valley Road in Logan County have the go-ahead to protect themselves and their property from wild or feral dogs recently spotted in the area, according to Logan County Sheriff Boyd Hicks.

Hicks said people should be cautious of the animals, but stressed only to take precautionary measures if there is a possibility of violence.

Patrick Pruitt reported that an aggressive pack of dogs chased him to his truck near the intersection of Hidden Valley Road and Arkansas Highway 217 on Tuesday (August 11) outside of Booneville, the sheriff's office reported.

"At that point when the dogs started chasing me I became a track star," Pruitt said. "It was hard for me to believe I was on my own property and I was being attacked."

Pruitt said there were at least four dogs in the pack.

"I realized they were coming for me," he said. "It just dawned on me that I was being chased, so I ran back to the truck. Once I got to the truck I turned around and yelled at them. At that point they stopped and I was able to reach in my truck and fire a gun and they dispersed."

John Wolski, who lives in the area, said he will be keeping an eye out for the dogs.

"If you are out here in the middle of the night, wandering around, doing something and they get after you, well it will be too late by the time you know it," he said.

Pruitt was not injured during the chase.

The sheriff said people do have the right to protect themselves and their property from the dogs.
