FORT SMITH (KFSM) — U.S. News & World Report released their 2016 Best Hospital Guide, and Mercy Hospital Fort Smith was ranked one of the top hospitals in the state.
Mercy Hospital was one of only three Arkansas hospitals to make the list of top regional hospitals, tying for second place along with Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock, according to a press release. CHI St. Vincent Infirmary in Little Rock earned the top ranking in Arkansas.
Some of the areas were the hospital performed best were chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, heart failure, hip replacement and knee replacement.
The hospitals are ranked on a number of factors, including care, patient safety, and nurse staffing.
They outperformed many other hospitals in the following areas:
- Saving lives and patient safety
- Fewer patient complications
- Fewer deaths and re-admitted patients
- Shorter ER wait times
- Patient satisfaction
- Shorter hospital stays
